Three Japanese Arts Tour in the Komoro-juku on the Golden Road with Onsen Stay
This is a special tour where you can experience three Japanese traditional arts – Kyu-do (Japanese archery), Sho-do (Japanese calligraphy) and Sa-do (Japanese tea ceremony), set in the historical heritage that remains in Komoro-juku, one of the post towns along the Hokkoku Kaido known as a Golden Road where gold from Sado Island was carried to Edo (current Tokyo) in the Edo Period (1603-1868).
- Kyu-do (Japanese archery): At the Kyudo hall in Komoro Castle, one of the Most Famous Castles of Japan, you can enjoy this private program to try kyu-do under the careful guidance of a local Kyudo club member with a 5th kyu-do rank or higher.
- Sho-do (Japanese calligraphy): A private experience held in a storehouse of a long-established paper shop.
- Sa-do (Japanese tea ceremony): A private tea ceremony held in the tea room of the Waki-honjin (a registered tangible cultural property of Japan), the second most prestigious building in the post town.
During the tour, you can enjoy local food and drinks, including an Italian lunch in the “upper room,” where only local feudal lord could use, at the Honjin, the most prestigious building in the post town.
Your accommodation will be at the Tokiwa-kan, a hot spring spa that has been a popular destination for therapeutic bathing since ancient times, and is known for its open-air bath that can be reached by a small mountain train.

Experience an Edo-era Trip in the Komoro Post Town on the Gold Road with a Whole Building Rental Stay at Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property
This tour takes you on a journey through the Edo Period (1603-1868), set in the historical heritage that remains in and around Komoro-juku, one of the post towns along the Hokkoku Kaido known as the Gold Road where gold from Sado Island to Edo (current Tokyo) during the Edo time. One of the highlights of the tour is the whole building rental stay at the Waki-honjin (a registered tangible cultural property of Japan) — the second most prestigious building in the post town back then.
Enjoy a comfortable level of physical activity, such as strolling around the post town and Komoro Castle (one of the 100 Most Famous Castles of Japan), and walking the part of pilgrimage of Zenkoji Temple, which is said to be one of the temples that attracted the most worshippers in the Edo Period.
The tour also includes food and cultural activities inspired by the Edo time such as an unique onikake-soba (soba noodles cooked in broth with local ingredients) which is certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ SAVOR JAPAN local traditional cuisine and a Japanese tea tasting game called cha-kabuki where you can taste a variety of Japanese steeped tea and learn deeper about them under the guidance from the Japanese tea instructor.
- Accommodation: Your stay will be at Kume-ya Inn with a private rental of entire building. Kume-ya is a renovation building of waki-honjin (a registered tangible cultural property of Japan) in the Komoro-juku. The waki-honjin was a facility where important people of the second highest rank after the feudal lord stayed during the processions that passed through the Komoro-juku. Please enjoy a relaxing stay while feeling the passage of time from the Edo Period.

Local Sake, Whisky, Wine — Drink in the Eternal Time of the Sacred Mt. Asama
This is a two days and 1 night tour to local savor sake, whisky, and wine made from the clean water and rich nature nurtured by Mt. Asama, one of the 100 Mountains of Japan, which has been revered as a sacred mountain since ancient times. As well as the variety of alcoholic beverages, you can also enjoy local food in the historical buildings of Komoro Post Town on the ancient Hokkoku Kaido, a road that was known as the Gold Road as it was used to transport gold from Sado Island to Edo (current Tokyo) during the Edo Period (1603-1868). The stroll of Komoro Castle which has about 500 years of history and smartly structured by utilizing the natural geographical character created by the influence of Mt. Asama is another fun! Your accommodation will be at the Tokiwa-kan in the Hishino Onsen which is known for its open-air bath that can be reached by a small mountain train.
- Sake — Local Sake Tasting with Sake Sommelier
As a welcome drink, we will welcome you with a local sake tasting at the Waki-honjin, a historic building used and stayed in by the second highest ranking samurai during the Edo Period (1603-1868), on the Hokkoku Kaido Komoro Post Town, with the guidance of a local sake expert. Please enjoy the famous local sake, including Asama-dake from a local sake brewery using the underground water from holy Mt. Asama. You will also enjoy a lunch box lunch of Shokado-bento with fermented food made with plenty of local ingredients for special occasions.
- Whisky — Komoro Distillery Tour and Hands-on Cocktail Making
The Komoro Distillery opened in 2023 as a new base for Japanese whisky, which is attracting worldwide attention. At the foot of Mt. Asama, which nurtures the pure, high-quality water that is essential for whisky production, world-class master blender Ian Chang and others aim to create the finest Japanese whisky. After a tour of the distillery, you can experience the Whisky & Cocktails Course, where you can learn how to make cocktails that bring out the full flavour of whisky, with a professional bartender as your instructor. Enjoy a sophisticated time at the new base for Japanese whisky.
